(1) ILP "Participation" - Lynda.com

I completed a Lynda.com tutorial for my second independent learning project. I chose to watch a video titled “Mike Hathorn: 3D Printing in the Classroom”(https://www.lynda.com/SketchUp-tutorials/Mike-Hathorn-3D-Printing-Classroom/185038-2.html). I did not only learn about the new emerging technology known as 3D printing and how it can be used in the classroom because this video had so much more to offer. Mike Hathorn is a new kind of teacher, whose success rates are flourishing. The way he interacts with his students is incredible, and so is the response of his past and present students themselves. He wants to turn consumers into creators, which does not nothing but benefit his students from all angles. The way he teaches and the respect he receives is all that I aspire to have as a future teacher. Using Lynda.com opened up all kinds of doors when it comes to inspiration and learning “how to”, and I can definitely see myself making use of this website in the future to better myself and my students down the road.

Notes:

Students today are extremely tech savvy when it comes to their cell phones

Students should not just be consumers of technology, but CREATORS

Your root and curriculum will always being changing based on students AND their teacher together

Mike Hathorn is a history teacher by trade, but now wants students to be cutting edge on a regular basis

Kids are taking Mike Hathorn’s courses because:
  •       He is always there for them in and outside of the classroom
  •        He values and supports their learning together
  •        Gets down to his students’ level and communicates

·
The 3D modeling and printing class
  • ·      Kids come up with their own ideas
  • ·      Never want to leave class because they are creating

Mike started off by doing 3D modeling of historical buildings on Google earth
  • ·      Students digitize their own towns and upload to Google Earth
  • ·      Embedded interviews from towns people who know history of the building using a program called “SketchUp”

3D printing came next when 3D modeling just was not enough
  • ·      Mike’s grant proposal for printing machines was accepted

Wanted to be innovative with the way the classroom is built
  • ·      Bright colored walls and interesting furniture choices to keep student’s engaged
  • ·      No sitting, only standing because studies show their thought process is different while standing

Mr. Hathorn wants students to create the curriculum
  • ·      Students love having freedom within in the classroom
  • ·      Students are not all doing the same exact assignment

o   They create their own rules and guidelines
  • ·      They’re all at their own place in classroom
  • ·      Mike only makes suggestions as a teacher

o   Doesn’t want it to be his project

“In terms of support, its been what to do you want to do and how can I make sure I am out of your way.”

Students say it is cool to actually “make buildings”
  • ·      Going into the future of technology

Learning this with this type of technology in high school is important and fun
  • ·      All Mr. Hathorn’s students are successful in his classes because of the unique way he teaches

Changing view points on where their education is going
  • ·      Tech Jam – tech expo in Birmingham, Vermont where students can showcase their work
  • ·      Seeing kids play with technology rather than just using it in the classroom because then kids are actually learning how solve difficult problems

Putting kids in charge of their own learning will be something they will always look back on even when in their career

Students ambition changes everything because when you do what is best for your students you will end up somewhere down the right road.

10 - Reflection

The use of data collection will always be used in my future classroom. I feel as though it is vital to work off the feedback of students. I want to make sure that they are understanding the in and out of class information, and that the way I am teaching is beneficial to my students. As a future high school teacher of history, surveys will be used to ask anonymous questions, and to receive anonymous feedback. I do not want students who feel uncomfortable participating in classroom discussions or talking to teachers to feel left out, and their grade suffer because of it. SurveyMonkey is a great tool that my teachers made use of through my time in high school, and it was really effective. It was used within the classroom and school wide to collect information that was always beneficial to my own education.

The topics I found most interesting while blogging and searching through the blogs of my fellow classmates were always centered how they were going to incorporate technology within their own future classrooms. There would be times when someone would ride about a new program or a special skill in Microsoft that I didn't even know existed. I loved when that happened because it gave me the opportunity to explore things that I would definitely want to learn how to use for the future. I also found it interesting reading how they felt about the assignment due that week, and learning how they overcame struggles and how they made their experience enjoyable. Sometimes my work and design process would be very similar to a fellow classmates, which made me feel connected.

I am still looking to advance my skills in and knowledge of Excel. It is not something that has ever come easy to me no matter how many years I have been taught how to use the program. But, the way it Has been taught in EdTech has really helped me capture the basics once again, which I appreciate. It bothers me that I am practically a wizard with all other Microsoft program, and Excel still continues to give me a hard time. I want to be able to work with spreadsheets without any kind of struggle because they can be so beneficial in the classroom, especially for making me a more efficient teacher.

I want to be the best possible teacher I can be after I graduate. The reason I want to become a teacher is because I want to inspire, and not only doing that by teaching my students but by learning from them as well. I now believe that the best way to do that is to make school as enjoyable and efficient as possible, and that is through the use of modern technology. I want to continue to educate myself in new programs, and stay up to date with new technological advancements. I never want to fall behind, or be the teacher that doesn't bring kind of sparkle to her lectures or classroom activities. I will always want the best for my students so writing up grant proposals for something I know my students will clearly benefit from will always be an option. My students will grow and learn just as I do, and that is extremely important.

9 - Flipped Classroom

I love flipped classroom! The majority of my teachers in high school took advantage of this learning tool. The concept is really simple. Essentially, it is when students will listen and take notes on video lectures at home, and then in class the next day they will compete activities and discuss the new material they learned at home. The use of this distance delivery allows for greater time management which is very important during short class periods. This gives students ample time to really understand the information, and allow the teacher to have more time for questions and deeper explanation. Students will acquire a more independent learning style all while making use of adaptive technology, which will do them will in the future.

In high school my teachers used YouTube as platform for their "flipped classroom". Here is an example of my Chemistry teacher's YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/user/RAZ112652/videos

I google searched using the string " teacher web resources for professional development" and came across a great site titled "Education World". It was made to direct teachers to what works best in the classroom. This resource is filled with news articles, lesson plans, and classroom activities. What I like best about it through is that it reviews classroom technology from apps to high definition tech products. Education World wants teachers to be the best educators they can be for their students so they provide them with all things professional development which is awesome!

http://www.educationworld.com

I really loved this assignment. It allowed me to get very creative, and explore all the different options and available programs I had to work with. I can see myself making great use of interactive powerpoint in my classroom because they seem to make everything enjoyable. The only thing about this assignment is that its hard to just limit it to 15 slides to it is time consuming, and so for next time I would like to be a bit more prepared before I start exploring and creating. In high school I always loved when teachers would create Jeopardy games for us because it was always to so intense and competitive, which made me a better learner, so I want that for my future students as well.

8 - Emerging Technology

Electronic paper! This sounds incredibly amazing, and is something I have never heard of before. This has great promise for future classrooms because of its inexpensive and easily accessible nature. It has all the capabilities of e-readers and tablets, but it is not as bulky and expensive. Its lightweight, flexible, and power saving components will allow students to use it all day during school without having to charge it or worry about fitting it inside their backpacks. As a future history teacher, my students will constantly be reading articles and making use of the textbook because I always found it beneficial during my time as student. Having easy access to this awesome technology in "tomorrow's classroom" will create a whole new attitude when it comes to textbook use and paper based activities because it will make it more innovative and interesting by actually engaging students.

The digital divide is a term that is used to describe those who and who do not have access to technology on a daily basis. It is not all about access, but also skills and use. Personally, I have always been given access to modern technology. Internet was always readily available at home, and at school to complete school work or just to use socially. My parents always provided me with the most modern technology to give me an advantage while completing schoolwork, and my schools have been providing me with computer education classes since kindergarten to learn all different kinds of adaptive skills. In high school, I always had a computer or iPad personally provided to me to use during class and at home to access my notes and textbooks. In my classroom, I will address the digital divide in my classroom by being knowledgeable and sensible when it comes knowing about my student's technology access and what kind of reasonable assignments they will be able to complete at home or even in the classroom. I will always make sure that not a single student will be left behind due to inability to have access to modern technology because that is not just.

The PowerPoint Presentation assignment gave me the hardest time. I never would've thought that I would struggle trying to use this application because I have been learning how to use it since Kindergarten. This assignment was very helpful in providing me with knowing the skills I need to improve on, especially creating a master slide. I did not like the master slide. It was a very difficult process, and even after research I still was not able to figure it out. But, I am very thankful for this assignment so I can sharpen my skills for the future. In my classroom, PowerPoint will be used on a daily basis so even the existence of the application will be extremely beneficial.

(2) ILP - Prezi

Using Prezi I designed a useful study tool to allow students to review the timeline of major events that occurred during World War II. It includes major dates, the title of event, and an image to help render a connection. The fun transition between pieces of information allows the student to feel more relaxed. The use of Prezi makes the look of learning a lot more appealing and creative, rather than studying off a crowded and basic PowerPoint.

7 - PowerPoint

You can achieve the levels of Bloom's Taxonomy through the use of PowerPoint. There are effective ways to teach students to remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create through the use of this program. This can be used while learning and reviewing novels. For "remember", students can use PowerPoint like a flashcard system linking new words found in our reading with their definitions. For "understand", I would add special effects and pictures to help students make connections with the characters and their physical characteristics and behaviors. For "apply", students can form their own groups making individual slides to create one large class-wide presentation that connects certain events and significant happenings in the novel. For "analyze", students can use PowerPoint to compare and contrast certain characters and their opposites by inputting a venn diagram. For "evaluate", students will be able to use PowerPoint to review and take my practice quizzes and tests before their final evaluation. Lastly, for "create", students will complete their own research and presentations on assigned topics as one of their final assessments of understanding.

Adaptive technologies are important to have access to when teaching those with disabilities how to access and use available technology. For student's with physical disabilities, holding pen or pencil, and even clicking a mouse is a difficult process. Programs such as "speech-to-text" allow children to interact with the technology, and complete assignments without having to lift a finger. This type of program can also be used the other way ("text-to-speech") around to benefit those with visual impairments. While, braille printers can benefit those with auditory impairments. Access to technology should be made easy for everyone who has access to it as our technological world is advancing. I have only seen adaptive technology in action once before as I witnessed an elementary school student who was visually impaired participate in "active reading time" by listening to an audio file. In the future the only thing I worry about when it comes to making use of adapt technology would be using it the most beneficial way possible for my students who need it. I do not want to deprive anyone from learning just because a disability is present in the classroom.

Making a Web page design was a lot of fun for me. I enjoyed being able to build up a website from scratch based on what I wanted my students and their parents to have access to. The software was simple and easy to use, especially when it came to getting to be creative and personal. The only thing I did not like about designing was that I felt limited when it came to choosing my page layouts. For next time, I would just like to better prepare myself for finding reliable links, and how everything was going to fit on my web page. As a teacher, it will be very important for me not only to keep my students in the loop, but their parents as well. I never want my students to miss out on any opportunity because they were "never told", and a great solution to that problem is an intriguing web page like the one made for this project.

6 - Staying Organized

After searching Google, using the simple string of "class pages" I was linked to Trinity Regional School's class page site. In my elementary and middle school we did not have anything so simple and convenient. I was directly brought to a list of grade levels from Pre-K to 8th grade, and after selecting a specific grade I was brought to a list of each subject and teacher designated to that specific grade level. I first chose 7th grade, and then directed myself to Mrs. O'Grady's 7th Grade Social Studies Page. In her page I found an eye pleasing, fun, and simple way of communicating with students and parents without having to jump through multiple log-in hoops. On this page, it told me what exactly what was going to be taught this year in 7th grade social studies, and it also brought me to a complete calendar of homework assignments and tests easily accessible to parents. This a great tool that all school's should consider utilizing because it makes it so much easier for students, teachers, and parents to keep on track and onto of each other.

I want to be an extremely efficient teacher. I never want students to feel frazzled in my classroom when it comes to me being organized and on schedule with all my out of school tasks. I want to be as productive as possible. Like it said in the podcast, I want it to be"invisible" to my students. I love the idea of using electronic spreadsheets to stay on top of myself and my students' grades and progress in my class. Organization will be key. As for presentation software I want to make day to day lectures as interesting and polished as possible as it is a necessary learning tool. The use of apps will be extremely beneficial for my administrative tasks if I work in a school where the daily use of apps is possible. They will be perfect for note taking, calendars, and calculators. In high school, when ever a teacher would discover a new fun educational app it was like Christmas because it made learning a little bit more enjoyable. Communication is also another major key. I want my students' parents to be very involved in our daily in class lives. I will use software that easy enough for the non tech savvy parents to use (like my mom). I will always want to keep in constant communication because it makes everyone feel at ease.

Before this "Web Evaluation" assignment I had no clue how to use Wiki. I never used it in middle school or high school, and as a first year college student this is my first experience with it. So, in general, I learned how to make use of a brand new software. I can definitely see how this can be beneficial for students and teachers trying to work together. The one thing I do not like about this software was that it took quite some time to get used to and understand, but after I got the hang of it I began to enjoy it. The one thing I would do differently would be to learn how to get more creative and in depth with the software. This tool will definitely be used in my classroom because it allows to me stay organized with my students' work and assignments, and it opens up another window for more collaborative learning.

5 - Web 2.0

Web 2.0 tools have made learning so much more enjoyable for me. My experience with these tools as a student will help step up my curriculum as a teacher. Youtube will be extremely helpful, especially with learning devices such as "Flip Classroom". Flip Classroom is the idea of having lectures at home and homework done in the classroom. Students will go home at night watch lectures, and in class the next day they will have time to have discuss the lecture and work on other activities. Blogs will also be a very helpful tool as they will allow me to track my students' progress and understanding of the in class material. I have never used Wikis, but I can see how it can be useful to the classroom as I look further into the program. While I think using Twitter  in the classroom is a great idea to get older students to want to participate, I may now start to worry that they may get sidetracked in the world of social media. Diigo is an interesting one, and I really like it. It is a direct way for students to receive not only my help as a teacher, but the help of their fellow students without having to go through the trouble of jumping through multiple loops. My main concern as a teacher using the web will be making sure that my students are using these tools safely and efficiently.

Peripheral equipment is anything that connects a computer to other things. This can be done through the use of a USB. Typically, equipment such as mice and keyboards need to be connect to a desktop in order to get the computer itself to function properly, which are examples of input devices. Teachers may also use peripheral input equipment to allow for projecting. An example, of output equipment would be the computer's monitor. But, the most important peripheral would be the use of a hard drive to allow for high-capacity storage. Wireless devices do not need much peripheral equipment. The use of network devices such as wireless internet are necessary in order to access the internet, so then Web 2.0 tools may be accessed as well.

The Web 2.0 tool I am most interested in right now is Edmodo (https://www.edmodo.com). I have been looking into this software ever since I read about it in another classmate's blog a couple of weeks ago. It is safe site where students have the ability to collaborate and work on school assignments. Again, the most important thing about collaborative learning is that it is done safely, and this site guarantees that which is great! Edmodo also allows teacher to conduct online quizzes and allows students to access their grades. This site puts everything in one place, taking some burden of students' shoulders.

As a future teacher, I would love to take full advantage of this tool.  In high school, I took a few quizzes through a similar software and it made it so much more enjoyable. All my students and their parents will have access to this site. It is important for parents to follow their student's progress as well.  This site is beneficial for everyone including school administrators. It keeps everybody in the loop, in one place, with only one password to remember. This site has over 62 million users, and it is hard to find any complaint or bad review anywhere on the internet, so I would say this software will more than likely be used by yours truly.

During this last "Concept Mapping" assignment I gained some simple, yet valuable skills. I learned how to use the software Webspiration, and while it gave me some difficulty I found a lot of value in it. While it was hard to create the physical outcome of the concept map with all the different shapes, images, and arrows, it allowed to me to make connections that would be valuable to my students' study guide. This software has great interactive features that allow students to collaborate right from their home computers. They have chat features that allow for discussions, and a sharing component that allows students to work on one project all together. The way that I could improve for next time is to become better accommodated with the software before use because it can get a little difficult to understand and use at times. I want to make it easy as possible for my students to understand, and I need to work on that aspect as well.

4 - Hunting the Web

I am hoping to become a high school history teacher in the future. For me, as an American History student, it was a lot easier for me to memorize timelines and dates when I was able to do something interactive with them. Standard SS.912.A.1.3 requires students to "Utilize timelines to identify the time sequence of historical data." I found a website that allows for students to make shareable interactive timelines and blogs that include features to help fellow students study off of them that work very well in my classroom. It can be found here: https://www.hstry.co. The use of academic software in the classroom is very important because it is beneficial to both the students and their teacher. Interactive timelines can be can be used as presentation software or as a concert mapping tool, because this site allows students to interconnect pieces of information and show relationships. Also, due to its fun and eye pleasing nature it could be used by students to give in-class presentations.

I use Google for just about everything, including my school work. When researching for academic projects Google Scholar was my go to. It was very important for me to find credible sources, and Wikipedia was never an option. Academic databases were my best friend from JSTOR to EBSCOhost,  I was given thousands of reliable articles, websites and newspaper sources. But, if I did just use regular ole' Google to find a source I would have to do a lot of fact checking. The podcast explained to me that I need to be double checking the domain name, which I knew was necessary. But, I never thought about the design of the website being apart of it reliability, which will now make checking sources a lot more efficient and simpler for me.

Working on the "Web Hunt" assignment was a very interesting experience for me. At first I ran into zero problems. I was finding everything without a problem. But, one thing that surprised me was that I had the most difficult time trying to figure out #8, which directed me to find a primary source civil war video. Using Google's special filters for videos frustrated me because it was not taking me to what I wanted. But, after some deep breaths and a restart I think I was able to figure it out, so we will just have to wait and see. Overall, I enjoyed this assignment because it allowed me to learn how to manipulate Google for everything it has to offer. Let's see if you have the skills to "hunt" the web too:

1. Find a program or software that allows you to conduct live in-class quizzes with your students.

2. You are teaching your students the importance of MLA, and how it works. Find a website that helps students learn how to use MLA in an interactive and fun way.

3 - Tech n' Class

When it comes to the ELA Standards there are plenty guidelines that have been prevalent to my life as a student so it is interesting to learn from a teacher's perspective. The one I would feel most comfortable teaching in my classroom would be: "Make strategic use of digital media (textual, graphical, audio, visual, and interactive elements) in presentations to enhance understanding of findings, reasoning, and evidence and to add interest." In high school, digital media was my life. My teachers constantly wanted more with the technology they provided us. We worked tirelessly in SMART classrooms that provided the tools to create and produce interactive presentations that we would later present in class for a grade. But, there are guidelines that I may not consider myself an "expert" in and would not be comfortable teaching just yet. The standard that would give me the most trouble would be: "Authoritative sources, using advanced searches effectively; assess usefulness of sources; integrate info to maintain a flow of ideas; include footnotes and endnotes." The first part of this guideline does not frighten me, but the last part does. I have never worked with footnotes and endnotes so I would not know the first thing about integrating them into my curriculum. It now worries me that I was never provided with that knowledge in my own high school classes.

The internet is a huge aspect of a student's learning community. As a student I was constantly on the web whether it was for research, presentation, or even just social media. As a teacher of high school students, academic portals and feed readers will be used quite frequently. Research is a large portion of the academic curriculum for high school students and applications like such will only make it easier for them. When it comes to programs for class communication, weblogs will play a big role in my classroom. Educational blogging will allow students to show me that they are completing assignments, understanding, and retaining information. Digital citizenship can go one of two ways for high school students; they either get it or they do not. Students in high school are much more independent as they are young adults which may make it more difficult to control them. The most important guidelines for them to understand are obeying copyright laws and making sure their content and participation is of proper etiquette and appropriateness. It is important for these young adults to understand what they do on the internet can affect them in the long run and digital profiles will follow them forever. Applying their critical thinking skills to the their use of the internet will do nothing but benefit them as children of the 21st century.

The Newsletter Design took me a lot longer than expected. Going into this assignment I thought I knew exactly what I was doing. When it came to the creative aspect I needed to learn not to go overboard because there is only so much that can go into a design with the use of two columns. Completing the smaller components of the newsletter did not trouble me, but piecing them all together was the struggle. I knew how to create two columns, use word and clip art, and how to create lists and hyperlinks, so there was no new knowledge obtained from those aspects. There were no negative aspects to this assignment besides the fact that it was unexpectedly time consuming. I enjoyed that I was finally able to take the creative things I knew how to do with Word and actually create something useful with it. For next time, I need to plan ahead and plan out the the structure of the newsletter so I do not have to struggle with placement and design. As a teacher, this use of technology will come in handy with communicating with teachers. I want to be a high school or middle school teacher, so newsletters never really crossed my mind when working with teenagers, and now I understand ways that I can make it effective even with older students and their parents.

2 - Social Media is the Key

Microsoft Word has been part of my life since the beginning of times. I have been in and out of computer classes since I was four years old. On my part, Word has been used to write papers, present projects and create flyers and handouts for events and announcements. Microsoft Word was hardly ever used for anything exciting in my perspective. Teachers have mainly used Word for creating tests, quizzes, rubrics, guides and all that boring paperwork. I can honestly say that the only time I was ever excited about Microsoft Word was in the second grade when I learned how to use clipart and word art. I am sure there is much more that can be done using Microsoft Word, but I just haven't learned all its tricks and capabilities for creation.

http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/gangsta-bill-gates.jpg
Copyright has never been my strong suit. I am always having to refresh myself on what is allowed and what is not. I remember sitting in media class as a small child being told what exactly what copyright was and I had no idea what the in world anybody was talking about. As I got older, and the research papers and projects started pouring in I began to understand copyright and why it is necessary, and once I got to high school citations and work cited pages became my entire life. Before every research project, my entire class was taken to the library to speak with our media specialist about the the proper way to cite sources and what exactly plagiarism is and how not to do it. As a teacher I feel as though it is very important to set an example for your students when learning what can be used and what cannot when it comes to somebody else's work. As a teacher, I too will put my students through many workshops that provide them with the skills to understand when to cite, how to cite, paraphrasing, and plagiarism. As a teacher, to set a good example, I want to try to stray away from using worksheets and tests made by others in order to show students that the photocopier is not always necessary. Students are quick to understand that using somebody else's work as their own is a bad thing, but they do not always know how to properly cite or give credit and I believe that is the root of the problem.

Again, as a child of the 21st century social media is not a foreign concept. I was learning how to use Facebook and Twitter at the ripe age of 10 (behind my parents' back of course). I do not think there is much more I can possibly learn about using these media pages, but there is a ton I do not know when it comes to using social media as a learning tool. Twitter is full of current events and discoveries, and educational technology is apart of that. Bringing social media into the classroom will spark students' attention as it is something that is apart of their everyday lives that they genuinely enjoy. It allows students to be interactive with their fellow classmates and teachers in and out of the classroom. Twitter has been adding features such as polls which can be very beneficial in the classroom. It gives students the ability to access and learn from educational articles straight from the experts themselves. In this day and age, social media may just be the key to getting students to want to pay attention and learn.

1 - Our Ever-Changing Digital Society

We live in the 21st century. The world around us is constantly changing in terms of new development and technology. It is important that students in today's day and age learn to be adaptable to these changes through the use of creativity and knowledge. Learning is a form of communication where teachers are the senders and students are the receivers. The only way that students are going to be able to understand the true significance of technology is if teachers are highly skilled in the field before anything. Technology can be used for everything from presentation to administrative tasks and is extremely beneficial, but still the implementation of this technology is the root of the problem. Older teachers who were not and may still not be educated in the use of this technology may have a hard time integrating it into their lesson plans or curriculum because may not be seen as "traditional". In my high school, many teachers left the school after there was a required implementation of new Apple technology to be placed in the curriculum. The use of this technology can be a scary thing. Even if there is a want and need for this new technology it can be still be difficult to get it due financing. We new live in a very expensive and flashy century, and the cost of educating today’s youth is on the rise. It is important to remember that in my situations educators are doing the best they can with what they have. The issues over the increase in demand for educational technology are accurate, and as a child of the 21st century I completely understand that this education is extremely important in order for our day and age to prosper and be successful once we get to the ever-changing real world.

The International Society of Technology Education (ISTE) has provided today's educators and learning specialists with guidelines known as the ISTE Standards, which are there to help teachers and students to flourish within the process of education in this digital society. I see these standards as extremely helpful and beneficial in order to keep up with the changes in this advancing world. There are standards for students, teachers, coaches, administrators and computer science educators. They cover all the basics. One standard that has stood out to me and warms my heart are the guidelines found under "Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity." This specifically stands out to me because this is one of my main reasons for wanting to be a teacher. I have always been inspired by teachers' passion for their subject and their ways of delivering information to their students with enthusiasm because without that enthusiasm I don't see a point in even trying to get your students to participate. The fact that this is seen as a standard gladdens my heart because it is almost guaranteed to make the process of learning easier not only on teachers, but students as well.

Digital Natives are those who were born during the advancement of the digital world, and who rarely have a problem adapting to technological advancements of the 21st century. I 100% agree with this terminology and label for my generation. It perfectly describes the fact that we will continue to grow and prosper despite the ever-changing society we live in today. There is definitely a difference in the way that digital natives and digital immigrants integrate with technology. I especially experienced the difference in high school. I went to a small private all girls’ Catholic school where a lot of my educators were a bit older than my generation, and it was a struggle for some due to the advancements that my "SMART School" was making. It would be up to the students to help the teachers set up their iPads and Smart boards a lot of the time and it became tedious and wasted learning time. In classrooms with teachers who didn't make good use of the technology when it was being used it was difficult to get myself to pay and attention and want to learn. When it comes to my future classroom and students I do no really know what to expect when it comes to technological advancements because in my mind I don't know how much more advanced we can get, but I know I am wrong. It definitely doesn't scare me because I have always done well with technology and understanding it. By the time I start teaching I expect the entire classroom to be digital and physical textbooks will most likely cease to exist and so much more. I find it very difficult to predict this kind of future because I really do not even know how to even guess how it could get any more advanced than the way we already have it.

0 - Day One of Ed Tech

I have been using technology all my life. From the early days my parents exposed me to the new and upcoming technology, which was not too much considering I was born in the late 90s. But, starting in pre-school all the way up through middle school and into high school I was in and out of "Computer" classes. I learned and covered all the basics using all programs from Paint to Excel. I grew up in an age of technology with Apple and Microsoft constantly at each other's throats trying to come up with newest and next best thing. In high school, I was given the opportunity to work in "SMART classrooms" and on "SMART boards" and was handed over an IPad to access all my textbooks and notes. I have learned, prospered and grown in a world full of technology, and I would not change a thing about it.

In Introduction to Educational Technology, I hope to expand my knowledge of ways to use technology to benefit my future career as a teacher. I remember finding myself so much more interested and actually learning in classes when a teacher was able to present information in ways that were creative and innovative. I want to learn how to do just that and push the limits of what I will be able to do technologically in my future classroom. I do not want to be a teacher that always has to ask their students for help with their classroom technology. I will hopefully learn to be the teacher with the "next best thing", and how to never have a student put their down on a desk in boredom.

The results of my learning styles test did not surprise me. I was never one to be set on one style of learning, because for me it varies based on the subject I am being taught. However, I have been labeled as active, sensing, visual and sequential. What did actually surprise me was that the only one I received a high score in was that I am a "sequential" learner. I have taken this test at the beginning of many courses, and the results have been very consistent. I am an indecisive person and although my learning styles remain the same, the results are low enough to go either way.
